Rust

Oh the beauty of this rust - I'm so easily pleased these days!

the process

I've been inspired to do a drawing from one of the photos taken last month - of the view from Pallant Gallery across the rooftops to Chichester Cathedral.

I start with a black and white illustration on bristol board, using a pilot v5 hi-techpoint black pen. I scan the drawing and then colour using coreldraw. I'm not a fan of illustrator - coreldraw is the freest programme (in the sense of fewest restrictions) I've come across. Sometimes I take one of my textural photographs and put it over the illustration using a lens - to dirty it up a bit and there you have it!

Patterns and textures

One of my favourite things to do - searching for patterns and textures around the marina, there's always something new to see.

paint effects

More paint effects found on boat bottoms! It's the time of year when the boats are brought into dry dock to be cleaned and painted - a massive task. So before that happens I get my camera out and I'm in my element!

mirror

The theme for illustration friday this week is mirror. I love vintage mirrors and so I've layered my drawings with a photo I took of flaking paint, to give that old speckled mirror look.

starlings in flight

I'm experimenting with my textured photo backgrounds behind these illustrations.

Have spent the morning in A&E - can't believe I've just kicked a wall and broken my toe. Accidentally not intentionally!

Perspective

Sometimes it's good to look at things with a new perspective. For this illustration and for propagate I've used textural photos as a background for my drawings.

Patterns and textures

On my walks recently I've been noticing pattern and texture everywhere, so today I photographed some of them.
