Woodland collection

Inspired by looking at the forest floor on my walks and collecting everything I see (which is becoming a bit of a problem in my house!) I've now drawn everything and put it together in a kind of pattern.

Last of Summer?

Walking, sea, collecting, taking pics, sunshine, blues - my favourite kind of Saturday.

Rubbish

I cannot help but pick up stuff when I see it in the road. Our garden is beginning to look like a scrap yard!

Flawed

I have an ever growing collection of glass - I just can't resist it. My favourite pieces are always the flawed and unsymmetrical ones.

It's here

Although I dread Autumn coming because it means the end of Summer and the dreadful countdown to Christmas, I actually love it when we get beautiful sunny days like the past few have been. There's nothing nicer than walking on a crisp Autumn morning looking at all the beautiful colours and there is definitely a different smell in the air - with the added bonus of finding mushrooms and collecting damsons and blackberries too.

Canned

Ages ago I needed some smoked paprika for a recipe but I could not find it anywhere, then I spotted some in Pigfinca in these lovely cans. So now I'm hooked on collecting them.

Primitive

The days I've spent in the wind and rain while Gray has searched for fossils. Somerset beaches, Devon beaches, Dorset beaches - for some reason always on days of extreme weather. I'm not as obsessed about finding them as he is but they are beautiful to see & pretty amazing when you think how they are formed and how long they've been hidden.
I drew these ones ages ago and use the drawing for the header on this blog & my website because I love the patterns. They also come under the heading of Primitive for IF, so I've re-coloured them to suit the day here which although Spring - is still pretty murky!

Nothing changes

I spent some of the weekend clearing out our junk room/music room to make more space for Gray's expanding collection of guitars, guitar stands, musical hardware, software, microphones with stands, recording machines etc. It had got to the point where he could hardly get in the room, so I thought I would go through some of my stuff. I find this very difficult - I can spend a whole day going through things, looking at old books, reminiscing about my childhood, unpacking material and old clothes I've kept and then packing everything back up again! I was shocked when I came across this notebook I hadn't seen for many years. I must have been about 8 years old and I'd bought it to record my first ever family holiday abroad, to France. What surprised me was - nothing changes does it? I'm still doing the same thing all these years later!

Nature table 1

Gull's feathers collected at Pagham Harbour © 2007 Nicky Linzey

Do you remember nature tables at Primary school where you could bring in things of interest that you had collected over the weekend? Well my conservatory is resembling this at the moment. It seems I cannot stop collecting things when I'm out walking. I've got stones, shells, a bird's nest, wire, rope, sea urchins, plastic insects, leaves, feathers - I could go on. I draw them and then I cannot bear to throw them away, sometimes they get moved outside to let nature take it's course. I can be ruthless but only when someone's coming for dinner & I need the space.
