starlings
This is the first illustration I've done for a while and was inspired by these photos. We've had a lot of starlings in the garden recently, you either love them or hate them. I love them and they make me laugh, chattering away. They keep flying into our windows though, but as far as I'm aware none of them has been hurt.© 2013 nicky linzey

Really lovely Nicky. I like your use of light coloured line on the dark background of the starlings.
I never realized that starlings had such beautiful patterns. Here in New Jersey they are considered to be a nuisance by many. I've heard that they like bamboo leaves and will strip the trees bare. I recently noticed that had happened to some trees that my neighbor planted a couple years ago and was wondering if it was starlings. Of course, many consider bamboo tree to be invasive. Your illustration is very striking!

I love the spiral-feel to the foliage; creates a deeper sense of dimension to these beautifully spotted birds (both in terms of your inspirational photos and the way you captured the physical characteristics of starlings!).
These birds and the more recent ones are amazing-! Been gone a while and can tell you have been busy!!
