Layer

At last a bit of time to myself and a subject from Illustration Friday that immediately inspired me - as I've been using layers in my illustrations lately.

This shows how I work from my initial pen and ink drawing in my sketch book. I scan in my illustration and turn it into a graphic which I colour in and then maybe add some more decoration as I did here by drawing the green shapes. Finally I found a photo of some cracked mud, turned it into a line artwork, coloured it brown and clipped it into the shapes of my bag to show the effect of old leather.

This bag is very old and battered now but it's still my favourite.

Luv purses, but always go back to my favorite. Told my friend if I buy another purse, just slap me. The art is fab as always.

Oh, what a great bag! I think the ones that are well broken-in and loved are the best. I loved watching all your layers come to life. And happy belated birthday to your adorable little pup!

It's interesting how you used the photo to create the look of leather and I like seeing the illustration in all the different patterns. It looks like the ideal bag, both roomy and comfortable to carry on your shoulder. Nice, Nicky!

This is super, Nicky! I love how you've shown us your process..and isn't it true, the old bags are always the best ones?! : ) You never need to apologize..it's super to see your visit. I have been missing too and I see that i've missed your beautiful Dusk piece..it's gorgeous!! Are you ever going to see prints? Or do you? I may be missing something!

I love to hear (and see) how artists get to the final work. PS I hope you feel better now and not grey and blue anymore!
