One of the places I love to walk is the cemetery near to my house. It is a wilderness of old graves, foxes, wrens, woodpeckers, sparrowhawks, owls, squirrels, brambles, beech trees - at least it was. It's being tidied now, smartened up, cut back, regimented. We used to pick pounds of blackberries here, now they've gone, complaints are being made about the foxes, squirrels - will they soon go too? I'm sad.

ReplyDeleteI like this very much Nicky. Really wonderful take on the theme and great use of color.
ReplyDeletelove your color palette!
ReplyDeletesometimes when things are cleaned up, the appeal is ruined! the place you drew and described reminds me of many of the places i used to go exploring as a kid. the helter-skelter chaos of the wilderness made it so mysterious and fun. beautiful drawing and i love your new header and profile pic. what a cutie you are!
ReplyDeleteHello Nicky, this is another zen piece. I really feel the comfort laying down and enjoying some good scenes and this is one.....
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful illustration, Nicky. Nice colour scheme and I love the little wrens in there. What a pity that it will soon be no longer :( ,but at least you will have a little piece of it here. I guess your allotment is a little small to cultivate a bramble patch too?
ReplyDeleteI like walking around old cemeteries, so many stories.
ReplyDeleteLove the colors and the mystery of nature. I would love to explore.
ReplyDeleteYes, Caroline I did think about growing them on my allotment but I'd have blackberries and nothing else after a couple of years! A long time ago I made some blackberry jelly & stupidly put the seeds/pulp in the composter - you can imagine - I had brambles growing everywhere!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific piece! Great use of color, shape, repetition and concept. I absolutely love your designs! It's fun seeing you :)
ReplyDeleteAnother pretty piece. The limited palette works well for the somberness of the place.
ReplyDeleteI'm always amazed at the movement in your pieces, Nicky..just so very fluid and beautiful. And your palette always rocks. I hope those squirrels and foxes won't go too! Very nice pice..love those little birds, too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful piece! I love colors and tones you use!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors and movement!!!

Nicky, this is beautiful! I love old graveyards. I also love berry bushes. I used to live near wild raspberry bushes, and OUCH, they would smart when we reached for the fruit, but I liked them just the same. I do hope the wee critters find a happy place to relocate nearby. Love the seed pods you've drawn, and your choice for the colorful patterned ground is brilliant!
